Frequently Asked Questions
Can my barn quilt kit be hung outdoors?
Our barn quilt kits are best enjoyed indoors or in protected outdoor spaces. Direct exposure to the elements (rain, snow, harsh sun) isn’t recommended. However, a covered porch, patio, or entryway is perfectly fine and a popular choice. They also look absolutely beautiful displayed inside your home.
What kind of paint can I use?
You have lots of creative freedom here! 🎨
You can use acrylic paint, latex paint, or even spray paint—whatever you love and feel comfortable working with. Choose colors and finishes that match your personal style or home décor.
What kind of glue should I use?
We recommend Titebond II Premium Wood Glue, as it’s what we use ourselves and provides a strong, reliable bond. That said, any high-quality wood glue should work just fine.
Why do some pieces look darker or slightly charred?
Great question! Our barn quilt pieces are laser cut, and the laser process can naturally create a bit of charring along the edges. This is completely normal and won’t affect your finished piece once painted.
Is the design etched into the backer board?
No—the backer board is smooth and unetched. This gives you complete flexibility when assembling and painting your design. Each piece fits together like a puzzle, so placement is straightforward and beginner-friendly.
Why aren’t paint, glue, brushes or color sample sheets included?
We intentionally leave paints and color samples out so you can fully personalize your barn quilt to your own taste, space, and style. Everyone’s vision is different—and that’s part of the fun!
If you’re looking for ideas, you’ll find plenty of design inspiration and finished examples on our website to help you get started.
Not including paint, brushes, or glue also helps keep kit costs down.
